Swinger Eight Projects is the name that members of S8 used to release the "a division" record under. The collection of tracks on this record originally came from early demos recorded in the fall of 2000 by Christopher Medrano and Chris Mis during several drunken nights in a basement apartment long before Swinger Eight had formed.

After meeting Ozzie Martinez, the sound and scope of what was to be Swinger Eight changed into something far more sonic. The decision was then made to release "a division" as something connected to, but outside the spectrum and sound of the core band. Keeping with this loose open feeling, additional musicians were asked to play on the record.
